About My Clients
Abe treats individuals, couples, and parents of young infants and toddlers. *Parents with young children who are experiencing attachment issues, developmental problems, trauma, anxiety or emotion regulation problems. *Couples who are experiencing a pattern of conflict, disconnection or hurt. *Individuals with anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, anger and emotion processing issues.
My Background and Approach
I value authenticity, safety and evidenced based methods, primarily drawing from psychological research such as attachment/relationship science, neurobiology and developmental psychology. I am primarily an Emotion Focused therapist (EFT). Emotions are adaptive and critical to knowing what we need; when understood, validated and integrated they can give one a sense of consistency and wholeness. However, they can become problematic due to past emotional injuries or because people often learn to ignore or dismiss them. My role is to stay attuned to client's internal experience as it evolves moment-by-moment, helping clients explore problematic emotional patterns, and promote access to adaptive emotions and more authentic experience. I also am trained in and utlize Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) (https:childtrauma.ucsf.educhild-parent-psychotherapy-resources.) and Circle of Security Parenting when working with parents and children.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that one of the most important part of therapy is that a client develops a safe therapeutic relationship with the therapist and that the therapist is extremely respectful of the internal world of the client. This is my passion and why I work relationally first while applying evidence based methods throughout the course of treatment.
