I have 17 years of experience as a collaborative and integrative therapist, specializing in young adulthood, and in EMDR.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Boulder, CO
I have extensive experience with the transition from youth to adulthood, but love working with transitions of all kinds. My specialty in EMDR is really helpful with releasing old ideas of self and allowing people to move forward according to their values.
I am trained and certified in EMDR, which is an evidence based treatment protocol for PTSD. EMDR allows you to desensitize painful memories and let go of negative beliefs about the self that result from them.
This is the most common presenting concern amongst my clients over the years. I have an extensive toolbox for managing anxiety, including mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and EMDR.
My training and certification in EMDR in recent years has totally changed the way I practice, as I now have a whole additional set of tools for accessing deeper parts of the brain. This helps clients shift and release old beliefs and memories more effectively that insight or cognitive work alone.
This approach centers the client's own reasons for changing, and helps them explore ambivalence about and barriers to change. There are no assumptions about what the correct goals, outcomes, or strategies will be, making it very individual and authentic.
This is the foundation of my clinical practice, as I was originally trained psychodynamically at Smith College School for Social Work. This understanding of relationship patterns and how they influence us in the current moment, as well as how to heal and change, underlies how I support all of my clients.
