About My Clients
I work with adult individuals and couples of many diverse backgrounds. I am competent working with LGBTQ+, kink, non-monogamy, and Autism type 1 (Asperger's). I do not judge or misgender my clients. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar, borderline personality, substance abuse, and couples issues.
My Background and Approach
I primarily blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for individuals. I am Level 3 trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. These therapy modalities are all complementary to each other and centered around helping clients develop new skills that go beyond simply talking things out. I develop a treatment plan together with my clients to clarify your goals and how you'll know that you're progressing toward them. I take a more active approach and I challenge my clients in a supportive way when appropriate. Sessions can vary from having minimal structure when you have a lot to process to highly structured when we're more focused on building skills. I use evidence based interventions that are well proven to help. I often suggest skills to practice and concepts to reflect on between sessions. I also help provide accountability by following up with you on your short term goals and use of skills.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Mental illness is real and it can feel soul-crushing. I have faced my own mental health challenges and I want to help others learn what I have to overcome them. I believe in science and I enjoy using proven strategies that create lasting change. Love and compassion are among my top values and I believe the world will be a better place if we foster them in ourselves and each other. I believe healthy relationships are vital to our wellbeing. I understand that addiction is not a choice but getting help and quitting is. I know that far too often people with autism feel the need to change themselves to suit others. I realize people who are not cisgender and/or heterosexual can have a harder time finding a therapist who they feel comfortable with. Helping others be happier and healthier and watching their successes along the way, gives me a deep sense of personal fulfillment that I can no longer imagine my life without.
