About My Clients
If you are someone who has been impacted by the Latinx or collectivist culture, childhood abuse, people-pleasing behaviors, familial invalidation, or feel like the black sheep for choosing your own path, I may be a great therapist for you. Other areas I love working with include cultural identity, shame, childhood abuse, first/second-generation exhaustion, intergenerational trauma, or being impacted by having a loved one on death row or incarcerated.
My Background and Approach
For the past decade, I have worked with women, families, teens, and individuals in a variety of different settings including the public and private sector of the child welfare system, the education system as a school counselor, as well as a Peace Corp volunteer in Morocco working with the Ministry of Youth. I am EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) trained and additionally work with folks who want to process "stuck memories" and negative self-beliefs. I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches including EMDR, attachment theory, IFS (internal family system) parts work, inner child work, and somatic experiences. If you looking for someone who uses cultural and spiritual elements that are nontraditional to Western practices, I validate and support ancestral practices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about working with Latinx women and folks who want to free themselves from the expectations of culture and family. As a woman of color and a first-generation college graduate, I never had the words or emotions to describe my upbringing and experience until I began my journey in therapy. As a fat Latina woman, I experienced firsthand how culture, society, and family can shape beliefs, thoughts, and values that often lead to exclusion and isolation when those values don't align. My mission is to ensure all folx and all bodies have a space to explore, laugh, grieve, and celebrate their own identity.
