Therapy can help you release the negative messages you've received from the world about existing as your authentic LGBTQIA+ self. I want to support you in lessening feelings of shame, reprocessing traumatic experiences, and bolstering you to live a balanced, healthy life in a world that can be unsupportive or dangerous. I provide letters of support for gender affirming medical care to ongoing therapy clients as well as to those who seek brief services focusing only on the GAMC letter.
After surviving sexual assault, you may feel numb and disconnected from the world or you might feel overwhelmed by emotion. I use EMDR (rapid eye movement) therapy and other techniques to help you reprocess traumatic memories to reduce debilitating trauma symptoms like “flashbacks,” panic attacks, and feeling on edge. When you no longer have that gut-wrenching feeling of fear when you’re reminded of your trauma, you’re able to make clearer decisions, feel calmer, and connect with others safely.
Whether you're new to ethical non-monogamy or you’re experienced in practicing ENM or polyamory, I provide an affirming space to work through jealousy, boundary negotiation, and to process how your past experiences may be impacting your current relationships. I am an enthusiastically kink affirming and experienced clinician. Through gentle but intentional therapeutic process, you will gain clarity and safety in your expansive relational and sexual life. I love working with ENM couples!
In relationship counseling with me, you and your partner(s) will have the opportunity to learn new communication skills while deepening your emotional bond and securing your attachment with one another. I primarily use Emotionally-Focused Therapy techniques, which ask you to tune into your emotions in the present moment in order to shift your relationship cycle. I also use Gottman Method techniques, which teach you concrete ways to communicate differently with one another.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based, integrative treatment for PTSD and complex trauma experiences, such as abuse/neglect in childhood or sexually traumatic experiences. EMDR focuses on building grounding and coping skills to manage intense emotion or dissociation. EMDR also uses various forms of bilateral stimulation (BLS) to desensitize and reprocess trauma memories, emotions, or sensations that cause you to feel anxious, "frozen," or overwhelmed.
Through Narrative Therapy, you and I will seek to understand the stories you tell yourself (or that others have told you) about YOU that cause you anxiety, sadness, or for you to feel "stuck." With that increased understanding of your self-focused story, we can slowly work to shift your story to reflect your strengths, your nuances, and your wisdom. With a more compassionate and balanced self-image, you will feel more confidence and self-love.
