About My Clients

My clients are often the ones who have been bounced around, have been given many diagnoses, and have struggled to find help. By the time they reach me, many of my clients have all but given up hope that they can be helped. My clients are struggling with insomnia, PTSD, or dissociative identity disorder, or a combination of these issues. My clients are brave and strong and I am honored to work with them.

My Background and Approach

I am a board-certified counselor licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. I have extra training and credentials in grief counseling and trauma and I'm also board-certified in telemental health (video counseling). My approach is client-centered and I tailor it to each individual's needs. I use CBT, CPT, and compassion frequently in my work. I am interested in maximizing a client's strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. My clients are equal partners in the work we do together. My goals is to work myself out of a job with each client because they have the skills and tools they need from our work together. The counseling relationship is the single biggest factor in the results you get. Because of that, I offer a free 15 to 20 minute video consultation. I want my people to be confident I am the right therapist for them before we get started. I am a board certified counselor, board certified in teletherapy, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My core belief is that, as Maya Angelou said, each of us is doing the best we can with what we know and that when we know better we do better. I also believe that we were shaped by many factors outside of our control (such as how we were raised, the genes we inherited, etc.) but the great news is that we can work to make those outcomes more to our liking. Both of my children are members of the LGBT community. One of my children is transgender and of course has my full support. I have a particular desire to support members of the LGBTQIA+ community because I have seen how difficult this society can make it for people to live authentically and that these difficulties negatively impact LGBTQ health. I am neurodivergent and welcome neurodivergent clients. My entire family is neurodiverse; one of my children and my husband are autistic. Another of my children and I both have ADHD. For me, being neurodiverse *is* typical!
