Hi! I work with struggling kiddos and parents feeling anxious, stressed, isolated, low self esteem, sad and “don’t know what else to do”.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Candidate in Wisconsin
I have worked with many parents not only grow their parenting tool box when raising a sensitive or complex child, but remember themselves and their needs during that journey. The world is very quick to slap labels and requirements on a parent and trying to fit that mold is exhausting and unfair. You are unique, and I want to have confidence in yourself. I want you to prioritize yourself and your needs. You don’t have to suffer, put your oxygen mask on first before assisting others.
I work with kiddos suffering from anxiety, depression, self esteem, ADHD, and behavioral issues. It’s important that a child’s mental wellness is attended to from an early age so that as they go through life they have the tools they need to be successful. I view this work as a team effort between you me and your kiddo. I want to make sure you have a solid collaborative relationship that will last forever, so your kiddo knows you are they’re greatest supporter and they can always ask for help.
When we are trying to make everyone happy without dealing with our own mental health needs it can manifest as anxiety, among other things. Perhaps you’re always worried about your kids wellbeing without worrying about your own. Attending to your own mental wellness will spill over into everyone’s lives and circle back. There’s nothing worse than walking around with that looming dark anxiety monster on our shoulder. We will give you tools to feel better and be your best self.
Processing through trauma can be hard, so to make it easier I use a method called Brainspotting. Brainspotting uses your line of vision that corresponds with specific emotional responses or past experiences. Sometimes your body knows what you can’t say and we use all of you to get through stuck spots and heal the core of your pain. After releasing your trauma we can really zoom in on healing by filtering other therapies that work well for you and reach your wellness goals.
Play therapy is a great way to process through emotions and feelings that are hard to talk about. For this reason I have found that its effective for both children and adults! Sometimes play can help elicit feelings we didn’t even know we had associated to different events and process through how they are making us feel. It’s a great way to pin point how are emotions effect us, sometimes a drawing or a painting can show us something that you didn’t even know was affecting you! Plus its fun!
CBT is a very well researched and utilized therapy. It helps us understand the connection between how we think, feel and behave. When we are able to understand this connection we can address anxieties, depression, self esteem, relationships, behaviors, and the list goes on and on. CBT also provides lots of coping tools that can be used over and over again to help manage any symptoms that may arise in the future. CBT is effective for both children and adults.
