About My Clients
I specialize in treating the emotional fallout of medical issues and trauma of all kinds. It takes courage to begin therapy. I will create a safe, trusting and affirming space for you. We will focus on building your strengths and resiliency and giving you the tools to facilitate change. I believe the foundation of all good psychotherapy is grounded in the quality of the therapeutic relationship borne on respect and compassion for your situation.
My Background and Approach
I studied psychology at Harvard University, received my BA from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters in Marriage, Family Therapy from the University of San Francisco. I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. This program married traditional Western empirical training with Eastern psychology and religion. I bring thirty-five years of deep clinical experience, having worked in diverse settings including inpatient, outpatient, community mental health and crisis services. A substantial portion of my clinical training was at Stanford University. I am an EMDR therapist, consultant and trainer nationally and internationally and have held leadership positions in a variety of capacities in the US, UK and Europe.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work is not just a job. It is a calling which I regard as a sacred duty. I am privileged to facilitate and witness my patients' journey toward health. My goal for every patient that walks through my door is not just symptom reduction but for each person when they terminate therapy with me to be able to say that they are thriving and flourishing. Additionally, my hope is that they will also be able to say that they are better off for having experienced the very difficulties that brought them to therapy in the first place. In the EMDR field we are calling this Post Traumatic Growth or PTG.
