About My Clients
I am a therapist who focuses on helping people restore innate goodness by using approaches based in emergent neuroscience and techniques that just work. My clients are adults of all ages, most of whom identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or from an immigrant background and/or a parent of a gender diverse kid; these are the types of folks with whom I derive great joy and the satisfaction in supporting.
My Background and Approach
The modalities I’m trained in are Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems. Functionally, what this means is that I will help you regulate your nervous system better, and I will teach you how to be more balanced with different parts of your mental system. I am also a board-approved social work supervisor and currently provide supervision to several pre-licensed clinicians. In my previous work, I supported people with an immigration journey and in refugee resettlement, I have worked with families and children, I was once a sexual health educator, and also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in my early 20s.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that anyone can improve their resiliency and self regulation capacity with some support and skilled guidance. There are always legitimate reasons for our behaviors, even if we don't have understand them yet. Working as a therapist is incredibly meaningful and I feel grateful that my clients are willing to let me share in their journey. I grew up at a time and in a place when LGBTQIA+ folks were not celebrated or even tolerated. I've worked hard as an adult to recover from the often invalidating, sometimes traumatic, experiences of my upbringing. Working with queer/trans folks in my practice has become a healing and wonderful extension of my life and gives me so much cause for joy. It's been healing to provide the kind of support to others that I've benefitted from myself.
