About My Clients
Many of us encounter hurdles with physical health, relationships, traumas, and/or oppressive systems. These experiences can prompt strong emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions. We may find ourselves in an exhausting tug-of-war with these reactions, repeatedly trying to tame them and get back to living; however, many times we simply fall back into suffering. If this sounds familiar, we may be a good match - working together to get you on track towards a life of vitality.
My Background and Approach
Although I consider myself a lifelong learner, my last name can often throw people. I am Dr. Ami Student, a licensed, seasoned clinician with extensive training and experience in the field of psychology. I help adults confront a wide range of challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress. I also have specialized training in assisting individuals struggling with their physical health. Throughout my education I nurtured specific skills in evidence-based therapies, including mindfulness-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also gained extensive experience providing LGBTQIA+-affirming care. Prior to starting my private practice, I worked for the VA providing services via telehealth to underserved Veterans, as well as served as a national consultant for the VA insomnia training program.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a therapist I value compassion, collaboration, genuineness, and contribution. I show up, remain active, and don’t take this work lightly. With care and understanding, I invite you to “dig in,” make change, and experiment with new ways of living. I am social-justice oriented, and make intentional efforts to be inclusive and equitable in my care. As a member of the queer community I also provide sex-positive, open-minded, and welcoming care for those living romantic, sexual, and gender-diverse lives. I actively attend to intersectional aspects of identity, particularly with regards to areas of physical ability, race, and ethnicity.
