Art Therapy is the guided use of creative and non-traditional means in session by a trained Art Therapist. This may include use of pencils, markers, clay, paint, photography, video, and any other type of symbolic or metaphoric tool. Art Therapy is a non-threatening way to set your cognitions aside in order to release any intrapsychic experiences that may have been previously inaccessible through words.
Children tend to express their feelings non-verbally through play and behaviors. Art Therapy can build self-regulation, emotion vocabulary, self-esteem and communication skills.
Finding one’s identity can be an uncomfortable task for a teenager. Art Therapy provides a space for teens to non-verbally express emotions and build insights regarding potential identity conflicts.
