My name is April Lacey and I am a licensed therapist specializing in treating anxiety, depression and adjustment to life changes.
Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in San Marino, CA
The main principle of humanistic therapy is that everyone has their own experience and unique way of looking at the world, which guides their decisions and actions. I have used humanism with clients with a variety of mental health disorders, which has helped them find fulfillment, wisdom, and healing based on their ability to be their authentic self. My sessions are geared toward understanding, amplifying and validating the voice of my client, to help them grow in their own way.
I am a certified CBT therapist, certified with Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. I have extensive training in the use of CBT to treat individuals with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I use CBT to help clients become aware of unhelpful or inaccurate thoughts so they can look at difficult situations more clearly and respond more effectively. CBT can include therapeutic “homework” assignments to help clients practice new ways of behaving that are beneficial.
Sometimes changes that happen in our lives can seemingly shake our foundation. Change can leave us with depression symptoms, anxiety, or behavior changes that we are not happy with. I have helped people move through steep life changes - family ruptures, traumatic events, job loss, moves, loneliness, relationship problems, and other stressful situations. A therapeutic space can help you process those changes and make the necessary adjustments within your self in order to better handle your life.
Anxiety can put a hard stop to you living your life the way you want to. I have worked with with people with a variety of types of anxiety -- generalized, social, agoraphobia, panic attacks, etc. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore the root causes, and we can collaborate to find the best skills and solutions to help you live with more ease and comfort.
You can be depressed and not know it. It can show up as apathy, detachment, or lack of motivation to do things that used to bring you pleasure. It can cause over eating or undereating. It can make you lose sleep, or sleep too much. Depression shows up uniquely in each individual. That is why solutions to depressions vary, based on your situation. I have treated many people with depression, helping them to learn about their symptoms, uncover the root causes, and find a healthier way of living.
