About My Clients
I find that my clients are passionate, sensitive, often highly creative people searching for a place where their full self can be witnessed, celebrated, mourned, or whatever the day calls for. They may struggle with grief, sleep, anxiety, and/or motivation, and often come from families with a legacy of unprocessed trauma, which can take many forms. Ultimately, my clients are looking for a place to try out new ways of being in the world, ways that better support their deepest values and most impo
My Background and Approach
I got into this work in my 30s, after receiving lots of professional help myself, which is why I try to approach therapy from a whole-person perspective. I want to know your strengths, values, and priorities as well as your challenges/symptoms. My work requires a deep understanding of the impacts of complex trauma. My education and training emphasizes the importance of trust/safety, consistency and authenticity. I utilize models that include a strong social justice lens coupled with a feminist psychodynamic background. I trained for a year with Dr. Meredith Sabini of the Northern California Dream Institute; dreams can be a transformative and valuable part of therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the healing power of authentic relationships, grassroots organizing, nature, music and all forms of art, including body art. I believe that U.S. society teaches us from a young age to ignore our intuition in order to make us easier to manipulate. I believe that learning to trust ourselves is a form of radical resistance. I believe that making (and sharing) art is another powerful way to fight back against the many forms of oppression, which is why I encourage creativity and self expression in myself and others. I believe people must do better at identifying and eradicating our internalized anti-blackness. I believe in dismantling white supremacy at every level of society, including in the therapy room and in myself. I believe it is my responsibility (as the descendant of colonizers) to help decolonize my world. I describe my political values as radical; I highly disapprove of the status quo. I enjoy working with others who imagine a more equitable and inclusive world.
