I believe that each person has the power to determine what has meaning in their life. What we give meaning to is often what dictates how we feel and how we live. We must also find ways to accept ourselves as individuals rather than waiting for others to accept us. We can work together to help you identify what you want to give meaning to your life and to accept who you are at this moment.
If you're a veterinarian or other animal care professional it's common to develop compassion fatigue. You give so much of yourself to your career & then you're needed by everyone at home too until you end up feeling numb & like you have nothing left to give. I can help you get better at processing your emotions, setting boundaries, & reclaiming your time, so you can feel better at work & at home. Educators -I know you can relate! I love helping teachers experiencing CF & burnout too.
I can help you stop worries from taking over your life & relationships, feel more comfortable engaging in social situations, trying new things, communicating your needs & boundaries, & showing up as yourself instead of who you think everyone else wants you to be.
I can help you learn the skills you need to not feel exhausted all the time, have energy for things you love, stop feeling like a burden, & feel better about yourself & your life.
We all have unhelpful thoughts/beliefs that have been reinforced over time through childhood, fears, society, & experiences. These unhelpful thoughts can be so internalized they feel true & impact how we respond, but they aren't always the most helpful/accurate thoughts for the situation. CBT helps us notice the thoughts & behaviors that perpetuate unhelpful patterns in life, so that we can dispute these thoughts/behavior reactions and replace them with more helpful ones.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches skills to improve mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, & interpersonal effectiveness. DBT was originally designed to treat Borderline Personality, but has been proven effective with many other mental health diagnoses including anxiety & depression. It focuses on acceptance of reality & not acting on unhelpful thoughts or emotions. DBT skills are helpful when we are unable to identify specific thoughts behind our emotions/behaviors.
Meaning & purpose in life can help us survive the toughest situations. Unfortunately society often describes it as "finding meaning" so we keep hoping it will happen to us, or we are prescribed a purpose/meaning through religion, family, career, identity, etc. that may no longer be a good fit. Existential therapy helps us recognize that we have the power & responsibility to decide what is meaningful to us, create opportunities to nurture it, & re-evaluate it over the course of our life.
