Accepting Clients

Greetings, thank you for stopping by. My name is Brian Stachowiak ("Stah-ho-vee-ack") and I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist.

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA

About My Clients

My clients come from a broad spectrum of identities, sexual orientations, genders, and neurodivergence. It is normal (and practical) to be skeptical of your choice of therapist that is the best fit for you. Our relationship will be built on trust and respect for your process. The clients that get the most out of therapy are those that are curious about what is summoned in them and committed to their inner work between sessions, all of which takes time.

My Background and Approach

I have an extensive background in psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and Jungian depth psychology. I am also trained in the Trauma Resiliency Model and Community Resource Model, having taught these frameworks to other clinicians. I received my early clinical training at the Los Angeles LGBT Center and LifeWorks Youth Center in Hollywood, so I am uniquely and affirmatively trained in issues impacting the LGBTQ+ communities. My approach to working with you is to first establish a trusting working relationship and subsequently explore the unconscious patterns that might be holding you back. I see therapy as a deeply reflective practice that helps us live better and more functional lives and we achieve this through looking at historical and current experiences so that we can get a better sense of your limits and future potential. There is no one-size-fits all approach, rather we co-create what is applicable/practical for you to live your life in an increasingly authentic way.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

We live in a culture that demands that we leave our bodies and our interior world behind in order to function in day-to-day living. As such, it takes a concerted and conscious effort to turn an inward lense on our lives to examine our motivations, unresolved family of origin issues and who we hope to become. I am a member of and very active supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and believe that queerness is of great value beyond just 'affirming' it as an identity but that queer people model something visionary that will one day revolutionize how people relate to and love one another. I am also an academic and teach multiple courses on clinical practice and human sexuality to nascent psychotherapists. I serve on the Board of Directors and Chair the Committee on Diversities and Socio-cultural Inequities at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in West L.A.
