About My Clients
As a parent, it is incredibly difficult to watch your child struggle at school, at home, with friends, with past trauma or with something else that you can't entirely put your finger on. You just want your child to enjoy their childhood and teen years and to not be struggling with their emotions, not be bullied at school, not be constantly questioning if they are good enough and to not be isolating themselves. If this sounds like something your child is struggling with I can help.
My Background and Approach
Specializing in ages 6-18, I have worked the past 4 years directly in public schools providing services to students of all ages an their families. Rather it be anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, problems at school, trauma, grief or something else, supporting the child or teen and the child support system as a whole is second nature to the work I provide. From identifying copings skills, providing play therapy to working through trauma, practicing communications skills through video games or old fashion talk talk therapy, I specialize my approaches to the person and family that I am working with. In addition to the experience above I also have provided crisis intervention services across the lifespan, grief specific work for children, teens and families and have worked with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Life can feel overwhelming and impossible at times but with the right tools, support and perspective, things can improve. I strongly believe that empowering children and teens can be an incredibly supportive tool to continuing success outside of therapy. I don't believe your past defines you but I do feel it does take part in shaping you into the person you are today and can affect who you will be in the future. I always meet the kids and teens I work with where they are and will help guide them to their goals, letting them drive the car. Being a parent is the hardest job you can have and growing up can be beyond challenging, but working as a team, problems can be identified, goals can be set, work can be done and change can take place. I'm just here to guide the process with some questions, activities, honesty, encouragement and occasional humor. As a side note, I do have limited adult client spots on my caseload as change can be made at any age.
