Counselor in San Antonio, TX
Supervised by Daniel Ascencao, LPC-S
One of my main passions has always been working with couples. Through my experience in various mental health settings, I found that relationships greatly impact mental health and overall well-being. Couples work isn't just for those "with problems"; I believe there is always benefit to strengthening bonds and exploring new ways to improve relationships. I am actively obtaining continued training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and have experience with a variety of couples issues.
I have worked with individuals struggling with addiction in many settings including inpatient, crisis response, community mental health authority, and private/nonprofit agencies. I have also worked with a variety of client populations including dual diagnosis, homeless, veteran, recently incarcerated, and those who may be asking the question "Is this *really* a problem for me?" I approach these issues with no judgement and whether you want to aim for abstinence or moderation, I'm here for you.
Is your mental health suffering because you haven't found a job that you're truly passionate about? Are you having trouble figuring out how to even start exploring career options? I have experience helping clients from all walks of life face this daunting task and help to identify how they can best utilize their strengths and skills. I enjoy helping others find a career that fits their goals, personality, and lifestyle - and all should have the chance to create their own path to success!
Gottman Method Couples Therapy has always been at the top of my list for relationship-oriented approaches, and I deeply enjoy helping couples strengthen the foundations of their Sound Relationship House and give them the tools to improve communication and learn to address and resolve issues independently. I am actively continuing training in the Gottman Method and look forward to showing how their evidence-based practices can help with a plethora of relationship concerns.
Everyone is unique, and not every therapeutic orientation is going to be a perfect fit for every person. I believe in using an approach that is based on the needs and personality of the client. Rather than trying to force someone to work within the rigid boundaries of one orientation, I strive to create a treatment plan tailored to the particular experiences and needs of each individual that I see.
Since the start of my education, couples therapy has always been a passion of mine. I would like to help couples understand that counseling does not have to come as a result of an issue or conflict, and can be used as a way to strengthen relationships and bonds as a way to prepare to handle problems in the future - if not avoid them altogether! It's normal to have regular checkups to make sure your body systems are running well, let's normalize proactive checkups on our relationship systems too!
