Depression is your systems way to self-preserve and self-defend. When things become too overwhelming, your system shuts down and goes into preservation mode. This was at one point a survival mechanism for you, to shut down and go into a low mode, aka depression. Understanding that your depression was originally a tool to help you is the beginning of an inner transformation.
Anxiety is a bodily signal to alert you that you are in danger or uncomfortable; this can be triggered by any number of things. Lots of times it is triggering something from your past that is unprocessed, but your body is reacting as though it is happening in the present. Anxiety is a form of self-defense and protection. When you're able to recognize and appreciate the anxiety part of you, that is beginning of an inner shift with yourself.
