IFS basically states we are made up of an innate Self and a variety of different parts. Have you ever felt like a part of you wants one thing but another part of you wants something else? I bet you have! In grad school I was introduced to this theory and fell in love with it because it feels so natural and applicable to myself and everyone I've ever met. I've since studied IFS, completed continuing education on this theory, and plan to continue with more formal training in the future.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing - Whew! what a mouthful, right? This theory holds that sometimes unpleasant events can get trapped in our nervous systems and impact our current reactions, emotions, and mindset. Have you ever felt that you react to things in a way that feels out of proportion to the actual event? Most of us have. EMDR helps process the yuck that is stuck in our system so it no longer mucks up our present and we feel more empowered about our future!
Sometimes it can be felt but not seen; known but not known; experienced but not understood. Depth therapy works on the level of the psyche, the soul, the unconscious, subconscious, and collective unconscious. Messages from the psyche come in the form of symbols, such as dreams, music, and art. Depth work can help decode these symbolic messages, helping to make the unconscious conscious. In my view, Depth Therapy falls in the spiritual realm of healing.
Sometimes it can feel like we're just treading water, trying to stay afloat in this world. We can feel lonely, isolated, unmotivated, uninterested, directionless, and joyless. I know it can feel like nothing will ever get better, that it's hopeless and there is no point, but if I can offer you one spark of hope it is this: healing and change are possible! Together, we can develop ways to help you manage the depression and prevent it from taking control of your life.
Racing thoughts, uncontrollable worrying, difficulties sleeping, tension, fatigue, irritability, and avoidance of life-activities can all be signs of anxiety. Anxiety is often a debilitating experience that can seriously impair your life. By learning to mindfully tune-in to yourself rather than tuning-out, you can learn to understand what is beneath the anxiety and get to the root of the message.
What if you could make peace with your body no matter your size, color, ability, age, etc.? Would you be willing to give up the battle you have with your body and work toward appreciating your body instead? If body image is something you've struggled with, I would love to work with you to learn to appreciate your body for what it is and to help you live a more fulfilling, fully embodied life!
