Through psychodynamic therapy we will explore your past and make connections to your present so that you can gain insight and understanding and have a deeper awareness of yourself.
Having depression can interfere in one's life in many different areas in many ways. Any amount of distress warrants help. Through therapy together, we will explore connections between your past and present so you can gain a deeper awareness of yourself, identify problems so you can get to the bottom of why you are feeling the way you are, uncover any negative self talk or harmful patterns that are impacting how you are feeling and learn coping skills to better manage your symptoms.
The tenets of Person-Centered counseling are what allow for a positive therapeutic relationship and the therapeutic relationship is what allows for growth and change. I have found that in using a person-centered approach, which includes being non-judgmental, genuine, empathic and accepting, the client can feel comfortable to be him or herself which is very important to the therapeutic process. Furthermore, this approach allows for the individual to be comfortable being his or her true self which can be a very healing experience as those who experience mental illness often do not feel they are accepted.
Anxiety can manifest itself in many different ways including through panic attacks, constant worry, social anxiety and physical symptoms and illness. I use a holistic approach to treat anxiety which includes using talk therapy to gain insight and awareness, intervention based therapy to address irrational thoughts that may be fueling your anxiety, teaching coping methods so that you can better manage symptoms and providing psycho-education so you can feel more empowered and in control.
