About My Clients
Most of my clients connect with me because they want to learn how to manage emotional reactions and get through tough times more effectively. Clients get the most benefit from our work when they are motivated and ready to do work between sessions. Since I am a direct CBT counselor, I will provide opportunities to practice new skills in and out of sessions.
My Background and Approach
I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which is an approach that helps us understand the connection among our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When our focus is trauma, I am able to incorporate a trauma focused approach to address your specific needs and skills. I obtained my trauma certification working with individuals and their families who have experienced traumatic events including childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault. Trauma looks different for everyone. In my sessions you'll find a supportive and safe space to discuss your unique experience. When discussing sensitive topics you will be met with compassion and acceptance instead of shame or judgement. In addition to being trauma certified I am also trained in EMDR and the treatment of traumatic grief. Not everyone seeks counseling due to trauma. I am support individuals who want skills to manage day-to-day symptoms that interfere with work/school performance, relationships, and self-care.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that knowledge is power. Once we learn the "why" behind our reactions, we can better identify skills to manage our behavior. Coping skills vary and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. You are the expert of your life and I will work respectfully and collaboratively with you to help you find solutions for your unique experience. All are welcome to reach out for services. I will consult with you to ensure I'm the right fit for your needs.
