About My Clients
Are the teenage years bumpier than you thought? Are you wondering whether you passed “normal family drama” a while ago? Perhaps you’re not sure how to connect with someone you love anymore and are wondering if they need support beyond just you. Therapy can provide you with a space to sort inherited patterns into helpful and not so helpful piles, explore new ways of managing stress, and hone connection skills that make relationships smoother.
My Background and Approach
I chose a career in therapy because it gave me an opportunity to utilize science in uncharted territory. I’ve always been inspired by trying to answer big questions through collaboration. I’m a teacher’s kid which taught me an unyielding respect and admiration for young people and lifelong learning. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Baylor University before moving on to Texas Woman’s University to obtain a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I’ve taught relational health classes in high schools , cared for youth in foster care, seen university students through making the leap to college, and supported families in crisis in residential treatment centers. In my approach I value neuroscience, genuineness, and authenticity. I’ll show up as me so you can feel comfortable being you. You can expect me to serve as a sort of “magic mirror” helping you see a different view of yourself and offering you suggestions and thoughtful observations to move you towards your goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Two of my most cherished values are justice and creativity. In practice, that looks like choosing to be aware of the systems and structures that contribute to injustice and marginalization and striving to dismantle them. You can trust that in sessions wounds from systems of oppression will be addressed, validated, and tended. As a person also impacted by these systems, I work to ensure I’m caring for myself too. Expressing creativity is one of my favorite ways to do that. My creativity has often been expressed in music. I’m an avid choral singer and jazz aficionado. I also use creativity to find new perspectives and solutions. I couldn’t choose which cat to take home with me at the shelter so I have two. (See? Creative solution!) I like to dance (poorly) in my kitchen with them while I cook. I’m a bookworm with a soft spot for SciFi.
