About My Clients
Marriage and partnerships go through ups and downs. Some situations call for extra support from a trained couples counselor. Couples counseling can: improve communication; reduce conflict; bring back the spark when couples feel like "roommates"; blend families after remarriage; and, create amicable co-parenting during divorce to minimize the impact on children. Pre-marital counseling helps new couples prepare for the future.
My Background and Approach
Sessions with a couples counselor are not about assigning blame, but instead center on understanding how each person can contribute to the repair and well-being of the relationship. I help couples gain insight into their own behaviors, as well as those of their partner, and acquire tools to change patterns, leading to a healthier and fulfilling connection. I am experienced in working with LGBTQ+ couples, and my approach to couples counseling and individual therapy is inclusive and affirming. I also have training in working with neurodiverse couples, where one or both partners have Asperger traits or are on the autism spectrum. In addition, I offer individual counseling for stress, depression, grief, and other issues that interfere with day-to-day functioning. I have advanced training in treating anxiety disorders and OCD.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the power of the will. We may not know what to do or how to create change to feel better; however, if we have the will to show up to do the work for ourselves and those we want a relationship with, we can reach our goals of feeling connected and fulfilled. I also believe that clients working with me should walk away with the tools, courage, and confidence to sustain their progress, with the door always open, if need be, to return for a "tuneup" for ongoing maintenance.
