About My Clients

I have led groups that focus on Race-Based Stress and Trauma as well as LGBT+ Health issues. I have a passion for addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues. My training in health and geriatric issues and DEI work combined with training across the lifespan, helps to consider development, culture and systems, health/medical issues, and life transitions in addition to evidenced-based treatments in therapy. Telehealth states include: https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap

My Background and Approach

I received my undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in Psychology in 2007 (Whoop!), masters degree from the University of Texas at Permian Basin in Clinical Psychology in 2009, and my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University in 2015. During my doctorate program, I completed practicums at schools, community centers, psychiatric hospitals, community clinics and completed my internship with a focus in health psychology at a VA Hospital. I went on to complete a post-doctorate residency/fellowship in health and geriatric psychology at a VA hospital. I then worked at a VA hospital for 5 years before transferring to a telehealth practice in 2021. My approach to therapy integrates parts of my personality (such as being direct, open, inquisitive, and approaching from the stance of learning) with a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework to address life experiences.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that the brain is built for self-preservation. As a function of this attempt at protection, our brains can separate, group, categorize, and identify things on autopilot. Because of this, I believe self-kindness and approaching life and oneself in a non-judgmental and intentional way can better help us turn off the autopilot reactions and take back our choices and responses. How this translates to my life and therapy is that I believe if we can work, everyday, to investigate ourselves, learn and interact with those who appear different, and approach life with openness we can build a brain that is more present, kind, and aware of it's autopilot tendencies. I am an LGBTQ+ ally, believe Black Lives Matter, science is real, no human is illegal on stolen land, and that intersectionality is integral in understanding ourselves and our society.
