Licensed Professional Counselor & Clinical Supervisor specializing in working with trauma survivors, anxiety, and PTSD.
Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisville, CO
I specialize in treating survivors of sexual trauma. From childhood sexual abuse to sexual assaults, my work is to ensure survivors have a safe-space in which to process what happened, get support around symptoms and reactions, and help develop skills to support living a full functioning whole life. Surviving sexual abuse can impact people in different ways and no two experiences are alike. I work with you to find out how this impacted you and what works for you to help you feel whole again.
PTSD can be successfully treated through several different modalities, including (but not limited to) Stress Inoculation Training, Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Body-Based Therapies, and medications. Additional treatments for the symptoms of PTSD may be beneficial as well (for example, Imagery Rehearsal Therapy for recurring nightmares). My goal is to help you find what works best for you on your healing journey through continual feedback and communication.
Feeling anxious is a normal part of life, but when these thoughts, feelings, & sensations become overwhelming, it interferes with our ability to function normally and in a healthy way. Suffering from anxiety and panic disorder tends to be a very stigmatized and isolating experience, as the general public doesn't understand the intensity of what this experience is like. We will go at the pace that is most comfortable to you and use evidence based methods in a trauma-informed therapeutic way!
As a graduate of Naropa University's Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling program, I am well educated and experienced in how to best utilize mindfulness in working with various mental health concerns, and also when it's not appropriate to use it. For those who may benefit from these techniques, we learn how bringing our awareness to the present moment and cultivating mindfulness supports our healing and recovery process.
Humanistic Therapy is a focus on the individual as a unique person in the world that exists within micro and macro systems that influence their experience of life. Through this approach, I deeply listen to what you are telling me as your own personal unique experience in life and help guide you in the direction that you want your life to go. In this way, I consider myself a partner, with you, in your healing journey rather than the authority over your life or what 'should be'.
When someone experiences a traumatic event or series of events, their entire worldview can change. It may no longer feel safe and being in control isn't a choice, it's a need and dealing with things that are outside of one's control can cause painful reactions, re-traumatization, and overwhelming feelings. I work to build safety, work slowly, with lots of communication and requests for feedback to ensure that we process the traumatic material safely in a manner that feels right together.
