About My Clients

Whether you are doing the work of improving, separating, or are now separated, couples counseling is a path to mutual understanding. If you are seeking to address an issue in your relationship(s), listening will be key to unlocking that door to mutuality. As conflicts arise, you might be asked to reflect back what you have heard, which can get pretty intense. Although you may go through a fever first, healing can then emerge...and so the foundation for growth along with it.

My Background and Approach

One of my favorite things about therapy is that I get to use almost everything that I've ever learned. I have an MA in Clinical Psychology (from Antioch University), but to me that's like the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this healing work. In practicing for three years, I've come to view counseling as something that, in some ways, I have been doing all my life. That's because it is more of a 'way of being' than any kind of 'doing' might entail. There are definite techniques associated with therapy as a craft, such as reflecting back the underlying emotion of what you have heard and asking relevant questions. Those are important, and I would say that they all stem from being present in the moment with the person in front of you. Without being, whatever you do will likely fall flat. Or, in other words, without soul your ego can get the best of you. I aim to allow space between words. Listening has more meaning when you feel included, without the judginess.

My Values as a Therapist

I am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. I believe in working with people across diversity, and mental health services ought to be affordable for that to hold true. I recognize healthcare, which includes mental health, to be a human right. Ideally, therapy would be provided at a cost not felt by the client. But that is not the society we live in--I need to charge you something in order to sustain myself. For what it's worth, at least, you can find therapy here at a sliding scale.
