Mindfulness-based therapy is a foundational approach I use in my therapy sessions with clients. As a graduate of Naropa's Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology program, I was steeped in meditation and mindfulness practices throughout my study. This is revealed in how I use our time together to pause and take note of what is happening in the present moment with curiosity and kindness. This begins to build the skill of mindfulness so you can find more choice in your daily life.
As a contemplative therapist, I am rooted in the belief that all beings are innately well, wise, and compassionate. This means as your therapist I will see your strengths and capacities in addition to the habits and patterns you may be concerned with. I will meet all of your experiences with compassion and non-judgment and help you find the same for yourself. Together we build a new perspective, where all experience is welcomed and workable so you can feel confident and choiceful in life.
I use acceptance and commitment therapy as an intervention to help my clients. This approach is rooted in the view that psychological flexibility is at the core or mental well-being. In this way, I help clients become aware of the ways they get hooked and limited by thoughts, beliefs, emotions, or behaviors that lead them away from what they want. Clients learn to stop avoiding or struggling with mental or emotional difficulties and begin to accept them while still moving forward in life.
Depression robs you of your aliveness and connection to yourself and others. This can be painful. It is a sign that something is off. The pain, manifesting as depression, has something to express. I know this experience personally which helps me meet this tenderness in my clients with patience, non-judgment, and compassion. I support clients take the time to get familiar with their experience, accept it, honor its message, and slowly reconnect with what matters in life based on personal values.
Anxiety is an attempt to keep you safe. You could say it means well! When it’s in check, anxiety can be a major motivator. Your body was built to handle anxiety. However, if you experience excessive worry or get stuck in a “what if” cycle anxiety has taken over. I help my clients take their life back by investigating their particular experience with anxiety with curiosity and care. With my support, clients learn to choose what matters and take committed action rather than be hooked by anxiety.
I support my clients to live their most authentic lives. Understanding and living in congruence with your sexual identity is one way to do that. Sometimes our sexual identity is not always so clear, especially when our culture expects us to adhere to the binary setup. Instead, I believe gender and sexuality are fluid for most people. My work supports my clients in feeling at home in their bodies, in sexual relationships, and their environments however they choose to show up and express.
