Humans are brilliant learners, absorbing messages from our environments, from our families, society, and culture. These external influences, shape our identities based on race, gender, color, etc., which then shapes our perceived realities. In order to know who we are, there needs to be an understanding of how these influences impact our current perspectives and behaviors. Only with this deeper insight, can we feel empowered to regain control of our lives.
I utilize a blend of boundary-setting modalities to address historical and intergenerational trauma. Survival instincts and ways of coping are often passed down in a family system, even if they don't always serve the present moment. Understanding why we react to certain situations, and why others may react, can increase compassion. Once we have cultivated that compassion we can articulate and implement boundaries from a place of acceptance and respect.
It takes a lot of courage to walk away from a religious community you've been conditioned to trust, knowing full well you'll be alienated & ostracized immediately when you choose to walk away. Spiritual abuse & religious trauma survivors know how destabilizing these experiences are and how lost one can feel as a result. If you're looking for someone who understands, I'd be honored to hold space for you and provide you the tools necessary to thrive in your new life.
