After years of working as a mental health provider on site at a local middle school, and raising my own kids, I have developed a particular compassion for teens in turmoil and their caregivers, who are all frequently at a loss. The digital revolution created cultural differences within one generation, and issues of managing virtual and IRL problems, complicated by identity crisis and commitment to family values creates rapture in the most precious relationships.
Anxiety became a token word to describe many mental health issues which are hard to identify or to admit to. I had trained in a clinical track and worked in various inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings since 2006. The coexistence of substance dependence and mental health issues are well known now, but people tend to overlook the underlying t/Trauma which may be the silent trigger for serious mental health issues. Burnout due to chronic stress and unidentified worry is a call for help.
