About My Clients
I work well with people who care for others - as family or friends or professionally - and feel stress around that experience. I also work well with caring people trying to balance careers and personal life - especially those who work in technology, medicine, education, and social work. I am affirming and knowledgeable of both traditional (monogamous) and unique family structures - blended families, 'chosen' families, ENM, LGBTA+. I am a 'counselor's counselor', welcoming therapists as clients.
My Background and Approach
In my practice, I have focused on how anxiety affects caring people, how the caregiver role is both necessary and undervalued in our society, and how to best help those who help others. I construct individualized treatment plans that draw from different counseling theories - usually starting from a Rogerian (Humanistic) approach, and integrating Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Emotional Freedom Technique, Existential, and other approaches as needed. It is perfectly ok if you don't know what any of those terms mean, but I like to include them in case you want to look them up. I believe in developing a strong professional relationship with you. I want you to feel comfortable talking to me, asking questions, and giving positive or even negative feedback. Sometimes the best sessions start with someone telling me I'm wrong!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a counselor because I believe in counseling. I know what it's like to come to counseling for the first time, to worry that it'll hurt more, to worry that counseling will not be worth the time and money. I get it. And work hard to make your experience as comfortable and worthwhile as I can.
