When working on relational issues, I ensure an environment where all members feel comfortable to express their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. I utilize my training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and The Gottman Method to encourage healthy communication, conflict resolution, and shared goals.
When working with kids, I create a safe and playful environment to build confidence and self-discovery. With younger children. I utilize play therapy as toys and symbols are the language they use to communicate. With teens, I focus more on their personal growth, meeting them where they are at, and collaborating on goals. With both kids and teens, I tend to use what the client is interested in to assist with therapy.
When working on relationship issues, I utilize my training with The Gottman Institute to help couples build their trust and commitment to one another, get on the same page, and build skills in communication. I also use my training in attachment to help couples understand how their early relationships affect how we have learned to relate to others as adults.
As LBGTQ+ people, we have had a lot of narratives thrown at us to tell us that, on some level, we are wrong and unlovable. The work I do with queer people helps build a self-narrative that you deserve to exist and thrive in the life YOU imagine for yourself.
Sometimes anxiety can feel like having little gremlins by your side and in your body. The more you feed them the stronger and more outnumbered you are. When working with anxiety, I often help clients externalize their anxiety to gain of understanding of what it looks and feels like to them. We then ask where some of these anxieties come from and gain skills to shed off as many gremlins as we can.
