As we interact with the world and those around us, it can be challenging to find the words to express difficult or traumatic experiences. Our bodies hold these wordless stories. As we develop a therapeutic relationship over time, you may come to comprehend, validate, appreciate, trust, and even develop a deeper affection for yourself, understanding how these stories affect your relationships. I've worked with children and families over 25 years and look forward to getting to know you and yours!
My Background and Approach
My therapeutic approach is personalized, a blending of somatics and psychoeducation. Somatic therapy focuses on the mind-body connection, recognizing the ways your body holds on to stress and trauma. Integrating somatic practices and attuning to your body increases overall well-being. Psychoeducation can help us feel less weird and alone. Learning about psychological concepts, coping strategies, and the underlying mechanisms of your experiences can empower you to better understand yourself and your relationships, offering tools to navigate the challenges you face. During our time together, you will have the opportunity to learn, process, and make sense of your experiences. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
All bodies - of all abilities - are good bodies! I used to be a weird Christian. I've always considered myself a secular humanist. I hold space for all faiths so long as your beliefs aren't harmful to yourself or others. And I can offer support in untangling those weird (talking donkey) and harmful (eternal lakefire) beliefs so they don't keep you stuck anymore! I'm Ace and often explore the intersection of asexuality, purity culture indoctrination, and how spiritual abuse and sexual abuse have led to trauma with my clients. This can look like getting to know different "parts" (Internal Family Systems) of yourself that may have different beliefs and feelings from each other. Honoring client autonomy is important to me, and this includes honoring everyone's right to their own spirituality and sexuality.
