About My Clients
I enjoy working with all types of clients and primarily have worked with kids, teens, and young adults. I work with people facing a variety of issues/concerns, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms. There are many stressors in today's world and young people are affected disproportionately. I love partnering with kids/teens/young adults to help them identify their strengths, improve their coping skills, and move toward healing.
My Background and Approach
I hold a M.A in Counseling with a specialization in working with youth. When working with children, I use Play Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, and Mindfulness/Expressive therapies. The primary language of children is play - this is where the therapeutic magic happens! Through imaginative play, creative arts, and story-telling, I help children express their needs, hurts, and fears. I use the structure of TFCBT and the flexibility of play therapy to help children express their emotions, heal from their wounds, and increase confidence in their strengths/coping-skills. In my work with teens, I use a person-centered approach that is rooted in authenticity and curiosity. I aim to be a safe place for teens to be themselves without fear of judgment. I use TFCBT as well as DBT to help teens build practical skills for managing emotional distress and trauma symptoms. I have worked with teens in a variety of roles since 2010, including youth leader, mentor, and mental health counselor.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every person is worthy of dignity, respect, and has immeasurable value. This belief in the sacredness of humanity has led me to pursue a career in counseling. It is my honor and privilege to be allowed into the vulnerable stories and conversations that clients bring into my office. I believe that part of my role as a counselor is to identify the areas of hurt and marginalization in my clients and to provide honor and acceptance.
