About My Clients

Are you stressed out, frustrated, and overwhelmed by the things you're "supposed" to be doing, and it just feels like there's not enough time? Maybe you have work or school (or both), and you're tired of hearing how you're "supposed" to have hobbies, make time for friends, work hard, manage responsibilities, take care of yourself, and, oh, don't forget to breathe! I get it. They said life was hard, but they didn't say it could feel this heavy. Therapy can help you learn to lighten the load.

My Background and Approach

I don't believe in band-aid approaches. If I tell you to breathe and call it a day, you may become a better breather, but you won't have addressed the reason why you need to breathe in the first place! That is why my approach is to develop insight into the root causes that may be making you feel this way in the first place. So while we will develop tangible tools and coping skills that you can take with you in your daily life, we'll pair this work with exploration and reflection that will help you become the person you want to be. So you might be wondering, how we are going to develop this insight? We do so by starting with our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. What we think can affect how we feel, and how we feel can affect what we do. But as simple as this idea sounds, it is quite difficult to actually draw connections between the three! That's why my goal is to help you better understand your internal experience so that you can live a life that aligns with your values.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I wish I went to therapy sooner. Seriously. As a Latino man, I subscribed to the social, cultural, and familial messages that told me to be "strong" and just "keep working." And as I went through college, got my first job, and then went back to school, I carried a heavy feeling in my chest, one that weighed me down and held me back from living a life that I deserved. And it wasn't that therapy "unlocked" some secret way of life; rather, therapy offers the healing power of being understood. You deserve to be understood, too. That's why I believe in using culturally-affirming practices to uphold social justice principles in order to center your identity and experiences. Rather than take a one-size-fits-all approach, I believe in empowering you and your values so that the techniques and interventions that we use are consistent with who you are as a person.
