About My Clients
Following grad school at UCLA, I have over 12 years of experience as a therapist and supervising therapists in our work to help people feel understood, supported, and make changes in their lives. I have specific training around depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship and workplace issues, anger, trauma, chronic pain, veterans' issues, and much more. In my office, you're welcome to use profanity, express anger and other emotions people might be uncomfortable with, and be yourself.
My Background and Approach
Whether you want to get support around new changes in your life that are causing you pain and worry, or work through problems that have been with you for years, my goal is to help you feel relief, feel empowered, and adjust to the things that are out of your control. I take an open, non-judgmental approach to working with my clients. Prior to opening my private practice in January of 2020, I was the Clinical Director at a San Francisco non-profit that serves people who were in the military and their families. I enjoy working with adults, older adults, older teens (16+) and couples. I have advanced training and experience in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic work, Substance Use Counseling, Harm Reduction Therapy, and Trauma-informed work. I also think humor is important for us to heal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I entered this field because I thought I could help end homelessness, and I was able to do that on an individual level for many people that I am grateful to have served. I'm still outraged at how our society and political infrastructure has either allowed entire communities to fall through the cracks, and/or actually worked to make that happen. In doing that work for the last 10+ years, I found that I feel most fulfilled when helping individuals find their inner strength and change the things that were previously out of reach. I am always striving towards cultural humility, and I value open conversations about privilege, race, gender, sexuality, aging, and the impacts of oppression on our society and the lives of the people I'm serving.
