Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Berkeley, CA

About My Clients

I expertise in depression, anxiety, perfectionism, relationship issues—with family of origin, colleagues, friends, or an intimate partner—and complex developmental trauma (CPTSD). CPTSD means that you have experienced prolonged difficulties, for example emotionally unavailable parents or a cultural norm that didn’t welcome your true nature. I integrate psychodynamics (depth work), existential, humanistic, client-centered, gestalt, somatic experiencing, and internal family system (parts work).

How I Can Help You

I’ll help you reach the healing that you seek by nurturing your internal strengths (such as awareness, self compassion, confidence) and deepening insight about your unconscious thought and/or behavioral patterns. Instead of stigmatizing your unwanted patterns, we’ll hold space and curiosity for why they emerged and how we can redirect and compost the stuck energy toward a healthier path. With the increased awareness and insight, you’ll access a full and whole spectrum of possibilities for the future. I’m here to guide you throughout this therapeutic journey, so that you become congruent and authentic to your best self. Read what my former clients said about my work at https://rb.gy/9upn56.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe it's critical to hold an inclusive, creative, and culturally empathetic environment for healing to happen. I was born in the early 1980s and grew up in a small coastal town, Pohang (포항) in South Korea. In my early 20s I came to the U.S. by myself in pursuit of curiosity and adventure. A fertile journey has since led me to become a therapist. I studied counseling psychology in San Francisco at California Institute of Integral Studies, and previously studied art and design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA), and clothing and textiles at Seoul National University (BS). Aside from a therapist, I’m Head of UX Leadership Academy at Google, an author of children’s books, and a certified trainer for yoga (RYT-500) and Search Inside Yourself — an emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and leadership program. I enjoy and restore my energy from painting, reading, journaling, hosting dinners, swimming, playing instruments, and tending plants and flowers.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
