About My Clients
I work with clients who have faced many challenges and stressors in their lives, to include trauma of all kinds, oppression, discrimination, racism, stigma due to addiction, homophobia, transphobia, or rejection by society simply for not conforming to traditional expectations. As an ex-evangelical, I particularly enjoy working with clients who have experienced religious or spiritual trauma (e.g. rapture anxiety, purity culture, etc.) and are seeking support in their deconstruction process.
My Background and Approach
I have been a licensed mental health professional (LMHC and LMFT) since 2003. With two Master's degrees (a Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction Writing), I seek to provide a creative, compassionate, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach in working with people of varied backgrounds, racial and ethnic identities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Knowing that every problem presented in therapy occurs in a cultural context, I engage in each therapeutic relationship from a feminist therapy framework, which focuses on diversity, gender issues, sexism, and power. I utilize information of how societal , family, and cultural expectations or norms have shaped who you are today to help you move forward more effectively and intentionally. My ultimate goal in therapy is to help you create the life YOU want to live, not the life others have expected you to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I wholeheartedly support feminism, anti-racism, the LGBTQ community, the Black Lives Matter movement, reproductive justice, people over profit, healthcare as a human right, and substance use treatment as a social justice issue.
