I have extensive experience and training working with victims of domestic violence. I started my career in social work managing a shelter and transitional housing program for victims. I have provided one-on-one counseling and group support to women struggling with identifying their relationship situation. I started a program for Lesbian victims of domestic abuse and the impact of oppression and queer-identity on same-sex dynamics in abusive relationships.

I have studied and utilized attachment based theory in my practice. Since the foundation of our core is rooted in childhood, returning to a new understanding during this time period can help us confront the attachment issues we experience in adulthood. Attachment theory can help us understand ourselves in a deeper way. Many of us have grown up in a dysfunctional family unit and may not be aware of how the significance of these experiences impact our emotional health and well-being.

I have extensive experience working in home health, hospice and helping seniors develop a greater understanding of their mental health related to the aging process. I provide emotional support to clients one-on-one and in groups to develop coping skills to manage grief and loss and death and dying. I have provided support to caregivers and family members experiencing difficulty managing the care of their elders and loved ones. I have assisted with senior care planning and emotional health.

The foundation of psychology is rooted in the psychoanalytic modality. The understanding of what is subconscious and what is conscious in our experiences. Exploring the impact of subconscious thought into our conscious awareness can deepen the relationship we have with ourselves. Psychoanalytic is "talk-therapy" and making connections to what we may not understand. Exploratory psychological experiences can offer a rich self-understanding of our life experiences.

If Frued is the father of psychology, than Marsha Linehan is it's mother. DBT is the most ground breaking, life-changing modality in the recent world of psychological thought. Understanding the connection between the mind and emotions and how to manage the influence of each has helped people create new lives less rooted in emotional pain. I utilize mindfulness techniques and exposure therapy highlighted in DBT to help clients struggling with issues best helped by these practices.

Rogerian therapy is the understanding that client's possess the answers to their emotional suffering and need emotional support and greater understanding of themselves to help them solve their own problems. This approach allows clients to develop a belief in themselves and their ability to know what they need. People come to therapy because they are in need of help or feeling lost or confused. This approach focuses on creating a better connection with oneself and confidence in one's own decision
