We don't get extra points for getting through problems alone. I'm here to help you navigate and overcome the challenges you're facing.
Licensed Professional Counselor in Katy, TX
I have been practicing CBT as a therapist for nearly 15 years in a variety of settings, from private offices to prisons. CBT is often requested because it has been shown to be effective for a range of problems, and my post-graduate counseling training was heavily focused on CBT, it's evidence base, developments in CBT approaches to better serve more complex problems. I have additional training in CBT for post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and psychosis.
My professional experience has been working with people to overcome the challenges talented individuals have in reaching their potential. This has been with public figures and high-performing individuals in the corporate world as well as people just struggling with motivation. I have additional training in working with athletes, coaches and teams. I am also certified and experienced in psychological approaches to managing obesity with clients.
I practiced IPT in group and individual therapy at the Central London Hospital where I worked until returning to the USA. In developing a therapy plan in collaboration with clients, CBT might not be appealing. IPT offers an evidence-based alternative for those who are not best served by CBT. I find it useful in therapy for grief or loss.
Body image issues can be a consequence of a related problem or a source of distress in themselves. These issues can be interlinked with mood problems, eating disorders and sexual issues. I have worked with clients to be happier in their own skin. I am experienced in working eating disorders, and with obesity and emotional eating, often linked with body image. I am certified in psychological approaches to obesity. A specific area of expertise is body image in female athletes.
I have expertise in supporting clients with traumatic responses and mood problems that come with abuse, including domestic violence. I worked in the non-profit sector providing advocacy and support for individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Wanting to broaden my helping skills is what led me to pursue training as a counselor. Often therapy can help to find your voice, heal trauma and develop healthy relationship goals.
I am experienced in helping clients understand and control anxiety. Anxiety can be extremely difficult to experience, but there is hope. As well as individual therapy for anxiety, I led therapy groups for anxiety in inpatient and outpatient settings. Although I use a CBT approach to anxiety because of its strong evidence base and effectiveness, I have additional training in Compassion Focused CBT and Mindfulness Based Therapy which have proven useful to many of my clients.
