My training in community mental health grounded me in cognitive behavioral interventions tailored to each person’s unique goals in treatment. CBT his effective in guiding and teaching clients about the connection between their thoughts, feelings, emotions and how those impact and influence their own behavior.
DBT provides clients with new coping skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships. DBT skills can have the capability of helping with improving the ability to regulate emotions, tolerate distress and negative emotion, be mindful and present in the given moment, and communicate and interact effectively with others.
As a person-centered therapist, I provide a safe space for clients to feel heard, understood, and seen. I aim at developing the therapeutic relationship by meeting the client where they are at with unconditional positive regard, empathy, genuineness, and acceptance. I believe that these components allow each person, to feel safe without judgment and to be able to explore and process experiences with another person as well as fulfill their own potential through personal growth and change.
Anxiety can show up as feeling nervous, restless or tense in both the mind and body. In our sessions we will talk about your life experiences and look deeply at what is driving your anxious thoughts. You will be able to take a deep breathe and feel at ease once again. Together we will develop the skills you need to sustain long-term improvement in your quality of life.
Relationship issues are at the center of so much distress. Whether struggling with commitment, coping with a breakup or divorce, trust, intimacy or communication, I can help you explore the obstacles to a fulfilling partnership, and discuss frequent problems that occur. We will focus on the patterns in your relationship keeping you stuck in cycles you do not like and improve the experience in current and future relationships.
Living in a Bicultural world, having mixed experiences between American and Hispanic lifestyles, can happen daily from inside your home to the moment you step out your front door. As immigrants and children of immigrants it's difficult to cope with language barriers, new customs within a new culture and struggles to fit in. As a first generation Mexican America I not only understand but I am here to help you work through these challenges.
