A person enters person centered therapy in a state of incongruence. It is the role of the therapists to reverse this situation. The purpose of Roger’s humanistic therapy is to increase a person’s feelings of self-worth, reduce the level of incongruence between the ideal and actual self, and help a person become more of a fully functioning person.
EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. It is an effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.
CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns.
PTSD may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event such as a natural disaster, a serious accident, a terrorist act, war/combat, or rape or who have been threatened with death, sexual violence or serious injury. It can have everlasting effects on someone's life. I have been trained in EMDR which is a form of Psychotherapy that can aid in reprocessing for trauma recovery. I can do this remotely.
Anxiety, worries, and fears of the unknown tend to be about the future content. However, some of this can be part of ones past history of trauma. Which discussing this further and recognizing that present day triggers may be part of past situations, events, and/or interactions that we lived through.
Depression is different that having sadness. Sadness is a negative mood state that we all feel from time to time. When does it become a clinical issue? How does it effect daily functioning? There are different types of depression, chemical, situational, seasonal, etc... Usually a combination of healthy eating, increase activity level, and supportive talk therapy may be helpful.
