Mental health is closely linked to having a sense of meaning, purpose and connection. Addressing disturbances that impacted development and disrupted self-actualization can restore a sense of balance and wellbeing. Therapy offers a way to reconnect and realign with our unique nature and potentials as well as meaning, purpose and connection.
Depression is one of the most common ailments I have worked with. I see depression as a fixed and persistent suppression of our capacity to thrive. Whether the cause is genetic, biological, or circumstantial, I've found success in treating depression through a mix of insight-oriented therapy with practical applicable tools to help shift the patterns of depression and allow for more movement and possibility.
Anxiety and related disorders are the most common ailments I have treated over the past 10+ years. The modern world moves and changes so quickly. Many people hold fear, tension, and overwhelm. I help my clients become more present and grounded so they can take one step at a time to manage and decrease anxiety symptoms.
With all clients I conduct a developmental assessment to understand where gaps and disturbances may have impacted wellbeing and functioning today. Early relationships to attachment figures (parents, guardians, other significant relationships) set the stage for our self-concept as well as expectations for adult relationships. Healing attachment wounds can improve self-concept and positively impact relationships with others.
With a background in dance and yoga I have always felt the connection between the mind and body. Our thoughts create feelings in the body and our bodily emotions and sensations stimulate thoughts. Approaching therapy from both directions speeds up the healing process. I have studied somatic therapy since 2000 and used it to augment talk therapy since 2010. As the field continues to evolve and become more understood, I have continued my training and refined my practice.
