*Accepting new clients* Hello! I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking therapist providing teletherapy.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida
Most of my four year experience has been working directly with adolescents. This means I have had experience with many issues that adolescents tend to have at this developmental stage such as: drug use, anxiety, academic stress, anger issues, parental and family conflict, self-esteem, peer issues, etc. In my experience, I am able to connect with adolescents to make them feel they are in a safe and nonjudgmental environment where they can express themselves and feel understood.
As a self identified Christian, I have experience on how some Christians who are dealing with stress, anxiety, anger, parenting, divorce, etc. may feel shame, guilt or anxiety just by seeking therapy. Mental Health can still be a hard topic for many churches to accept or even understand. By providing Christian counseling, it makes it so much easier and fulfilling to participate in sessions where there is similar values and Christian principles, prayers and the bible can be incorporated.
I have worked in substance use field since 2016, mostly with the adolescent population. I work through a harm reduction point of view as one it can be dangerous to suddenly quit "harder substances" but also because it makes it less likely for relapse to occur. This treatment has also worked for those individuals who self-harm, by finding healthier ways to cope while reducing the negative coping skills being currently engaged.
The main frame work I work with is SFBT. This theory tends to focus on identifying the problem and identifying past solutions and new ones. It has been a successful framework that has specifically worked with most of my adolescent clients with issues such as self-esteem, anger management, anxiety, etc. I believe it is an effective framework, which I have been using since my internship time in college in 2016.
I was able to earn my Master's in counseling at Barry University located in Miami Shores, Fl. I was lucky enough to be able to do their dual specialization track for mental health counseling and marital, couples and family therapy which primarily is founded on Bowen family systems. I apply family systems thinking in all my work with clients at it is important to identify and be aware how relationship patterns affect individuals and how "dysfunctional" patterns can be changed to "functional."
