About My Clients
If you are queer, struggling with a major life adjustment, and are searching for more fulfillment and meaning in your life, we could be a good fit. I primarily work with adults who are seeking services due to trauma, anxiety, or generally feeling overwhelmed with where they want to go in their lives. I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ issues and trauma.
My Background and Approach
I am a person centered therapist which to me means that I fully believe that my client is the expert on their own experience and greatest resource for healing. I take a holistic approach in my work with clients, addressing and affirming the whole person, not just the initial problem that brought them into therapy. I recognize that though a specific problem may bring someone into therapy, typically "the problem" is actually a complicated web of interwoven layers and concerns that are explored and dismantled during the process of therapy. In a therapy setting, I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the foundation for healing. That being said, I take pride in cultivating meaningful relationships with my clients built on mutual respect and shared vision for their road to change. I am an EMDR trained therapist and believe that trauma is an obstacle and stumbling block for most if not all of us to the rich and meaningful lives we all crave.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a staunch believer that we all have the strengths, resources, and resilience within us to heal old wounds and clear obstacles that sabotage our growth and happiness. For a number of reasons, I think we can all get blocked from our inherent gifts and strengths so therapy can be a way of getting unblocked and access our natural capacity for healing and growth. In my experience, trauma tends to be the most common block and thus often shows up when people are seeking healing and connection. Through my own trauma work, I have learned to harness the helpful aspects of my anxiety and fear while reducing their ability control me and make my decisions for me. Therapy isn't about the therapist but it's totally normal to be curious about and want to have a human to human connection with your therapist.
