I specialize in narcissistic abuse recovery, highly sensitive people, and perfectionism/overthinking.
Clinical Psychologist in Denver, CO
I have a passion for helping all couples improve their relationships and have training in 2 of the leading approaches for couple’s therapy: Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. While EFT helps couples establish a secure attachment by learning how to identify and communicate underlying emotions, Gottman Therapy provides structure and skills for enhancing a couple’s friendship/connection, improving communication/conflict, and creating shared meaning/life goals.
For anxiety, I balance Self-Compassion and Acceptance with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Sometimes anxiety starts as a reasonable concern, but people feel like they shouldn’t worry. Unfortunately, that leads to anxiety about anxiety, which tends to make things worse. Having some anxiety is normal and healthy. That’s where self-compassion and acceptance come in. Then, we’ll use CBT to challenge unhelpful anxiety-inducing thoughts and shift behaviors that may unknowingly increase anxiety.
Depression can be an awful, encompassing black hole, but there’s a way out. Luckily there are lots of approaches that can help. I use a combination of: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (to shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (to improve relationships), Psychodynamic Therapy (to explore how the past may impact the present), and Supportive Therapy (to help clients explore their own ideas and solutions) depending on what appears to be at the root of a client’s concerns.
I use CBT to gently challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and shift behaviors that may unknowingly increase distress.
I believe one of the most important things is human connection and when we don’t feel connected it can create feelings of distress. With Interpersonal Therapy, we’ll work to improve your relationships for a happier, healthier life.
I believe you are the expert on yourself and focus on what my clients what to work on.
