About My Clients
I believe therapy should be a safe space and focus on creating that for people who have experienced oppression and stigma. Anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflict, self esteem issues, body negativity, and negative thoughts touch all of our lives at some point, but there is always hope for healing. The populations I enjoy working with are LGBTQIA2s+, ethical non-monogamist, kink community, and spiritual trauma survivors.
My Background and Approach
I have worked with mental health and substance abuse in community health settings for over 12 years and learned that often systems and institutions do not see the person, only the diagnosis. My approach is focused on safety finding, individual needs, and building a relationship that models trust and growth. I use multiple modalities and believe that there is no "one size fits all" with treatment. I have studied and implement acceptance and commitment therapy, CBT, motivational interviewing, forward facing trauma treatment, inner child work, and strength based approaches within all of my sessions. However, what is more important than my knowledge is recognizing that you know yourself better than I do and my respect for your autonomy and ability to heal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I love helping people and as most helpers this was developed from life experiences growing up within an unhealthy family dynamic. I understand crisis because I have experienced crisis, like so many others. I am a member of the LGBTQIA2s+ population and an ally for the Black Lives Matters Movement. I have spent much of my time helping in suicide prevention and teaching trauma informed care approach to the Opiate Crisis. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my poly family, our kids (human and animals), going to theme parks and state fairs. I love videogames, silly cartoons, and the beach is my favorite place in the world!
