About My Clients
Some of my clients are seeking therapy for the first time, and some come to me because they have been to many therapists, experienced all the techniques, tried all the medications, are still struggling, and are losing hope that things can ever be different. Many of my clients have experienced profound complex trauma and find themselves trapped between needing and wanting connection and having chronically dissatisfying or traumatic relationship experiences.
My Background and Approach
My approach is gentle and patient, but highly collaborative and empowering. My job is to hold space for my clients, to be solid and grounded, and to support clients as they learn, grow, and expand their world again. I am trained and licensed as a clinical psychologist, and my experience is diverse. I have worked with children in state care, teenagers in forensic, residential, and inpatient settings, elderly people in rehabilitation or residential care, and with chronic pain and brain injury patients in a multidisciplinary medical practice. In all of those settings, I found that the most complex or challenging cases had a common theme -- unresolved trauma. This prompted me to specialize in treating trauma and open my own multidisciplinary practice that offers comprehensive treatment options that are financially accessible. We offer complimentary trauma-informed yoga and music therapy to all current clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe all people are drawn toward health and wholeness, and progress along that path is possible, when people are supported, nurtured, and given the space to heal and grow. My own journey on that path continues (indefinitely), but I am grateful to have made it to a point in my life that I did not imagine was possible. I grew up in Canada in a mixed race family, and my own nuclear family is multiracial. I am first generation college educated, grew up in a fundamentalist Christian household, and I love to support people who are breaking away from oppressive family systems and daring to forge their own path in life. I am acutely aware of social justice issues, dedicated to being an ally for marginalized or oppressed populations, and passionate about doing my part to create a more equitable experience, while also being aware of my own privilege and how that impacts my perspective. All profits from my second business/passion project are donated to social justice organizations.
