About My Clients
You know when life feels not just overwhelming, but confusing too? Those who work with me are often looking to get support to find relief and learn to cope. They're also looking to better understand themselves and their patterns of suffering--the why! They might be struggling with relationships, big life changes, or facing substance use issues. They might be LGBQ/TGNB or an ally. I believe each person has their own unique culture and environment, so I focus on honoring those parts of my clients.
My Background and Approach
I've spent most of my life dedicated to mental health and the field of therapy, spending the last 10 honing my skills to become the therapist I am today. I think therapy can be an amazing life changing experience and everyone deserves a therapist that matches them! I've trained in NYC and Sydney, Australia and have additional certification in trauma treatment. I'm also an instructor in Applied Psychology at New York University, and I draw from psychodynamic, attachment-based, anti-oppressive, creative art and trauma informed work. I truly believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most powerful tools in therapy. So with empathy, energy, and curiosity, I aim to meet you where you are, inviting you to a safe space for you to find relief, gain clarity and insight about your feelings and experiences, and develop new strength to face your challenges. I also think that collaboration, creativity, and even a bit of humor play a key role in the healing process!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I always like to remind clients about our evolution as humans priming us for today. I believe we're all wired for relationships. That is, we're naturally oriented to relationships and looking for peace, love and connection. I also believe we're wired to look for dangers, protect ourselves and make sure we survive for the next day. Often, our own self protections and those who are meant to protect us (whether those are loved ones, parents, or systems and institutions) create experiences that get in the way of us experiencing healthy relationships with ourselves and others. Whether it's neglect from parents, systemic oppression, or a world that just isn't designed to meet our basic human needs, our selves get blocked. However, we're often left without this understanding or a story that explains why we act and feel the way we do. I hope for therapy to be a place to not just understand the why, but to invite a person back to a self that is connected inwards, to others, and feels peace.
