About My Clients
You're probably queer, possibly trans, more than likely neuro-spicy, and most definitely traumatized by society at large, or your family of origin's spiritual framework. You might be a survivor of conversion therapy. You might be a cult or high-demand religion escapee. You might be part of a system. You are ready to heal from the shit you've had to slog through and are ready to confront some pain and address it head-on. You're due for a change and are deserving of safety and calm.
My Background and Approach
My background is very non-traditional. I am a former photographer of 35-years, university professor of 10 years and becoming a therapist was the result of my own journey as a queer, trans-woman escaping from Mormonism. I take a very humanistic approach to working with clients. We will look at your life with a broad view as well as getting into the weeds a bit. I will call you out on your shit. We will work on your healing in a collaborative effort, with you remaining in charge of where it goes. I am trained in EMDR and utilize its framework as much as you are ready to dive in. Your life is a story and I am here to listen to you share it and give you new insight and make connection in ways you might not have been able to thus far.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I feel very strongly that we all deserve to heal. I also know that the amount you can heal is largely dependent on factors which are probably out of our control. I don't see people as victims, but rather as survivors who are clawing and fighting to a healthier place. I have abandoned any formal framework of deity or spirituality and find the divine in one another and in the natural world we live in. I believe many of us have been in either formal or informal cults or cult-like relationships and the tools we needed to escape them weren't available until recently. I believe that queer and trans people are our modern-day shamans and healers. I believe Black Lives Matter. I live on Stolen Land and have worked within Native American communities in both urban and reservation settings for years. I believe it is up to us to create a better world starting with those in our immediate sphere of influence. I can only help those I am in contact with.
