Licensed Professional Counselor in Draper, UT
I have extensive experience in treating depression. Depression can look many different ways in client's. It's important to work together to identify the intensity of the depressive symptoms and how your depression is impacting your daily functioning. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, we will work on the complexities of your depression experience.
Anxiety can be extremely debilitating for many people. Sometimes the level of anxiety that someone experiences, can impact daily functioning. Other times, it can be significant but the individual is highly functioning. Together we will work on the best treatment planning approach, to assist in helping you lessen the impact of your anxiety. In conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral methods, I will help teach DBT skills, such as Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance techniques.
Many women face specific challenges related to child-bearing. Perinatal issues can really impact a woman's life, and can impact hormones, mood, and overall life outlook. I work with women who are going through various struggles, such as: infertility, miscarriages/stillborn deaths, loss of a child, health issues associated with pre-pregnancy/pregnancy/post-pregnancy, and postpartum anxiety and depression.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, is a highly researched set of skills/techniques that is useful with a variety of mental health struggles. It is commonly used in the treatment of personality disorders, but also is very useful with various mood difficulties, as well as chronic stress. I am trained in DBT, and work with client's on developing the specific set of skills that will work for each individual. I also help client's with not only learning the skills, but specifically how to implement them.
I have many years of experience with pre-maritial/marital couples, who are experiencing difficulty with common issues such as: building intimacy, communicating in a healthy way, letting go of old resentments, and getting into the habit of living their lives in a parallel way. Once couples learn a certain "dance" of how they engage in routine patterns, it's quite difficult to break out of it. These patterns of our unique "dance" is what we will address in couples counseling.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is highly researched, and has been for years. It's highly effective for many struggles that we are facing. It's focus is to help identify and restructure long-standing thought patterns that create self-limiting beliefs. Many times, people face these limiting beliefs about themselves and others, without realizing how they got there. Together, we will bring these thoughts, behaviors, and actions to the level of concious awareness, so we can begin to work through it.
